Dyslexic Join Air Force

droenendes Namaste from the muddy Hassan!

And again it is a week around and out there in civilization is waiting eagerly to ensure smoke signals from us.

So, from the initial housing shock, we have we fully recovered and feel but very homey in our Hoel - the human being is flexible!

now but once our exciting experiences of the past week:

On Tuesday we went in a huge caravan, which is composed of 4 highly motivated, shopping enthusiasts Indian women, Sunny our very tired Mentor , Girrish the Lord of the steering wheel and from the two of us together, sat around a shopping trip in the bustling town of 120,000 souls Hassan (Indian city for small dimensions - almost never find on any maps). The shopping list wrote primarily a new Shalva cameo (3 piece Indian dress) and mainly the first sari. No sooner said than done! The first sari backroom sale was considered by the house-trained and wife of our Project Director unfriendly and totally overpriced.

without using it, we went into a shop can beat the girl kitsch heart beat: earrings, about Bracelets (Bangles), to the famous Indian Bindhis was to have everything and in all conceivable Gitz- , Glitter and Schnoerkelausfuehrungen. We have then first struck properly, however, are now of the opinion that we still far enough from the Klimbim.

Stroll In passing, we have found it fairly soon after our dream substances. After that, everything went pretty fast, we have decided for the substances and were then pushed out of the 4 women to one side and the tough negotiations began. (Although we have not understood a word but in gestures and facial expressions we were able to read, such as housewives take the fabric hair under the microscope and then make it before the seller systematically poor). Lo and behold, in the end they had reduced the price by 1 / 3 and we were overjoyed.

the moment is the stuff from the tailor and is custom made. And we are now looking forward to the result as two Flitzeboegen.

then we are still at the Sari-Outlet with Grabbeltischen scurried over and have promptly found three models 1A and bought. After this successful major shopping we went happy but also completely done zuruek in our home on time.

Once in the apartment, we then also first a "after-shopping-revival-party" organized by us again to enjoy our spoils, and the two teachers were very keen we provisionally in our saris Wrapping materials and to take pictures (a passion seems to unite all Indians).

The following day was no less exciting! Not knowing and to set a step in which to move forward our opinion, most difficult language in the world (we are really two hoffnugslose cases but the teachers are great) it has been opened after a hearty breakfast, that if we would be interested in 20 minutes Departure for a Indian Christian wedding would be and that the couple would happy about our coming rejoice. We were of course immediately from the little house, but was quite clear that we would not lead the ride to our apartment over to us and make up nearly adequate or is it just to tame the shaggy head - nothing of all this! So we went in our simple Casual Dress on the pompous and colorful wedding, we have experienced so far. Just the church we could in our wildest dreams can not imagine how they exestiert here in real life really. We say something like: flashing crucifixes, over and over brightly painted walls and the gold robes of the windchill 20 priests took our eye first in captivity and demanded to leave again. Also, wedding dress and suit for the groom would have the church ceremony, original can be sprung from Barbies and Kens World. (Say nasty as you have, the colorful, dazzling wedding party in their festive saris were beautiful than the bride).

The culmination of all this Disney production, however, was the location that presented itself to us in all its glory as we, after a bumpy journey, across Hassan arrived at the scene: Blumentorbogen with their giant banner behind it immediately to the lovely waterfall and the birds chirping aviary with budgies hearted.

About a royal ascent we went into the throne room (and this is our full Ernst). At one stage there were two extremely majestic, plush, golden throne / Throene or optionally throne (which we are heavily in the majority do reflects very well our disbelief at the sight again!) on which the court took frischvermälte pair. For the "court" was a sea of red plastic chairs draped lovingly in front of the stage. However, we left again after a short stay this Etabilssement and went down into the Kattakomben to the main employment of an Indian, the food, to investigate. Eaten was a banana leaf and eating gabs it were on an assembly line: whizzed a service force of an estimated 30 men with different chutneys, Sambas, Rice, Puris, pasta semolina milk pudding and much more between the tables back and forth and clapping each of everything again Platt bananas - where the hand had been converted into a spoon. Yammy!

Our heads swung always cheerful from right to left until the sheet was filled abundantly. However, was only then the real fun for us going - eating with your fingers and on time - what we not been so clear. Chapathi and Puris are really viable, but that this rice pudding - without rice but with noodles, was a single show. The Indians around us literally broke into peals of laughter, which improved as we were staying is not the strictly planned dinner shift operation due to slow food.

then was then a rather quick end to the pleasure. But without shaking hands and large group photo with the bride and groom to read We do not pull from there. They also swore to us that they we were so thankful that we have come and have taken time for them. -> We were not invited and were grateful that it has tolerated us, and then such assurances? The confusion was great.

bride and Brauetigam

Those were our weekly highlights, otherwise we have always much time for us and sell us with Canada to learn (we do our best advisable). Or do we tinker "teaching-materials" have the feeling to eat constantly and have therefore been yesterday, a fitness workout program imposed on what we will try to keep order in a nutshell the saris without shame, but with well-formed "Sari-bellies" can carry.

We have a tremendous amount of fun together! And next time we tell you how and why to honor worship cars, and plastic chairs and cupboards and there is a date set for these negotiations in this country where everything seems possible to exist. See you soon!

Yoruba II

my Yoruba is now slowly getting better and I also learn to form proper sentences, because in our project, we have the advantage that the nurses mainly speak Yoruba and are willing to teach us too. The children only speak English and are taught only in this, but understand the Yoruba of the nurses. In primary school children in Lagos, the Yoruba also have as a school subject. Some older people speak only Yoruba and in the villages to the people supposedly speak predominantly Yoruba. Many of us speak Oyinbos here in Yoruba and their questions and wishes to repeat more often. Responds to them then they are totally surprised Yoruba and laugh. Overall harvests everywhere positive mood when talking with the Yoruba people.
depressing when learning is that many words sound like enormously similar, but emphasizes different. In addition, there are no set rules and each tells a slightly different, because the language is not spoken at all uniform. Often, you are probably not because of our debate but also because of differences in the speech immediately understood. The willingness to learn this language but they will appreciate them all.

Broken Capilaries Between Fingerstoddlers

summer school blows

From 9 to 3, I started working here in the so-called summer school where the children from the hospice, normal in a school to go to be educated in the summer holidays. That's seven children aged two to six years. Employed here are a top teacher, two interns and two nurses from the hospice to make the clean and bring the food. In the last two weeks, but almost only Frauke and I taught. Next week the children will go back into their normal school and we are expected to teach in the new house disabled children.
The top teacher Antsie Bose is pretty brutal to the kids, but can also be quite warm. With the interns, we see ourselves very well and teach in the resting time, the children sleep in the one hour, they are in Yoruba and we bring them a little German at.
The children start the school day to pray and sing with, then they are informed by one and there is a snack of cookies and Capri Sun, that they lie down in the resting time. Eating for two is it then, then they should be taught, but we mostly play with them. All children are currently totally obsessed with the "Bubbles", which I brought from Germany. Bubbles to come here so great!

Lutheran Wedding Ceremony Program

Now I'll talk a little bit nice, but unfortunately quite common for Nigeria Theme: The beats.
in both hospice and in the school (where in particular), children are beaten if they do not behave or take in the opinion of teachers or nurses something wrong. From a European point of view the shocking at first glance, but it sounds worse than it really witnessed here. Mostly I can understand that the few nurses give some kids a very hard slap to all the children somehow to get under control. Overall, it must be said, however, that all children and especially to the school children too much accustomed to be beaten when they do something wrong, so it is almost impossible to convey to the children without shock, that something is wrong or you itself is evil. So we had to fight in the first two weeks so pretty, the children to keep quiet, lest they be beaten by the other teachers. Meanwhile, we have found, however, alternative punishments, which are not associated with pain. As a teacher, you stand here, but under enormous pressure, as the children rumtanzen a part on the nose do not listen to us and sometimes beat, because they find it funny and because the other teachers to call on us again and again to beat the children . Overall, it gets here enormous respect for all teachers! So, if my former teachers are reading this, I now know what kind of a stress! J On the behavior of the children must be said, however, that the tutorial here, I do not believe corresponds to the age. The children are two to six years old and should spell out here already, and must include a lot to learn by heart, even the youngest can not yet speak properly. We're trying to make learning a little looser and connect the learning of animals, colors and body parts are used with games, dances and songs, which is extremely demanding and requires a lot of creativity and imagination. The top teacher is quite brutal and quite arbitrary in the distribution of shocks, but there are other teachers who beat very little. In the hospice, it is sometimes more difficult because children do not understand the disabled if they do not want something. They do but not the biggest problems, but rather the many children, want to play with me, jump on me on it, climb on me, and otherwise try to get my attention. Especially if you have a baby on her arm and they start first and then beat me nor the baby. If they will not be defeated by the nurses, this habit spread very quickly and every child wants the well try it. Then I have to be loud and try to bring the baby to safety. To the children but are very nice and every morning I am back on it. A volunteer who has already been here in Lagos and also works in a school has told me of their experiences and said that at some point already found its way without shock, which made me pretty motivated. However, the children at their school and almost never beaten.
Everything I have described here, may sound but for Europeans is pretty horrible, but here interpreted very differently. One must then also make clear that the beating in Germany was as usual a few decades ago. I can change little, because this here is firmly anchored to the culture, but I try to keep my thoughts and my German German morale, and thus faithful to show people that there is another way. I do hereby make Nigeria not down, but thought that it is important to add this aspect of my description. Children are hit and remains terribly, But everyone should be clear that this is a matter that has to develop here and in this description and in many stories worse comes across, as it is practiced really.

Governor Fashola and the new Hearts of Gold

Generally many bad things here about the politics of their country said.
"The government is corrupt and only makes the rich even richer." But from a politician they swarm all: Babatunde Fashola, the Governor of Lagos State. He must have really moved much here, because many speak in the highest terms of him. The volunteers, who are already half a year here, reported that had changed in recent months, much of it. So there are here all night long on the mainland electricity, many new roads, one or the other trash and overall a better Muellsystem. Another fact he told us the director of the Hearts of Gold Hospice on the first day: On his birthday, decided to visit the governor, some way homes and other social institutions. He came into the Hearts of Gold, looked the children and the work of the director. After this visit, he asked her if she needed financial support and they only answered: I need no money, just a new placement for the children. He went back later that day home and a month was the director called him. They would travel together to the new house. You did not understand and when they were there, they looked at a new, vast building complex, which he said that it was now the new Hearts of Gold. She jumped in the air for joy, and the child that was taken on the birthday of the governor in the hospice, she called Fashola. Frauke and I went after this story with her to this house and could not believe it! It is huge and this provides the entire construction almost European standards. The children are large dormitories, working plumbing, the roof has a large and safe playground. Also included in the house two classrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, laundry, staff room, a visitors' area, the entire apartment for the director and room for a few employees, so for us. We were really glad when we saw our own room. We will really have their own room, where we can stay! And "Mummy" also told us proudly that was placed before the extra toilets and showers, a sign for women and men, because I'm the only man among the employees. This is also the reason why I first of the children "Antsie" (auntie - aunt) was named, for they call their teachers and carers Sun Meanwhile, I could teach them but to call me Uncle Bayo! In stock, we will next week when the House completely finished and furnished, is to move there.

Valentine Dance Dresses

first impressions Hassan

Since Monday, we are in Hassan and were taken here from all very friendly. Our apartment in which we will live temporarily until the new children's home built is finished, required plenty of tolerance. But after a shopping expedition and a cleaning party, we have made friends with her. In addition, we are not alone-Siggi our house cockroach feels safe in her bucket well, even geckos and giant grasshoppers look now and then over.

On Monday we were the first time in the orphanage and have our Indian children very close to the heart, now unfortunately only have two weeks holiday and we are learning instead busy on Kannada.

Yesterday we visited a village and were at a meeting of the Health Volunteers there. These are women from the villages who are learning a few basic things about health, nutrition etc. and distribute them into their village. In principle, it was interesting to see how this works, but unfortunately it was all in Kannada and we have not understood a word, except the things that we have translated our director. So we were glad we were allowed to leave the meeting early.

All in all, it falls to us a bit difficult to acclimatize ourselves here, but our mentor and our Dirktor are super nice and helpful and do their systems allow us to make it as easy as possible.

We hope that we can upload photos as soon as possible.

The New Brent Corrigan Shower

all days are marked by informative lectures held by the warm-hearted "master mentor" Malathi.

Full of anticipation we now have our project in KKID welcomed and found that we all made real gluecksgriff. Our mentor is called as it looks: "Sunny" 24 and we immediately have been very sympathetic.

wash days are up to now our personal high-lights, they usually end in total chaos and persistent Lachanfaellen. We

2, and even two couples are the last to leave then on Monday After breakfast with a laughing and a crying eye in our project and our temporary home. Laughing, of course, because of the excitement in our bellies our project and all parties meet to arrive somewhere and finally unpack our rubbish in the long term and to make especially the golden child who will form the future principal to our listeners. But to have to take just too sad farewell again, where we have grown as a group just to a large family with Malathi as a substitute mom.

The next exciting is news, after a brief respite from the lovely Hassan.

Best regards

News from the Land of Smiles

It does us so sorry that we wrote a long way! How are completely overwhelmed by the millions of impressions which flow to us here since Tuesday and the time is way too short to get shut everything under one roof. We were warmly received here and our crazy days here are one better than the other! Our experiences range from: tour of several Hindu temples to shopping dancing with Indian villagers in the street, to the adventurous clothes shopping in the Indian jungle. (If something after, but the Indian electric power is self-willed)
